Oh, and it’s the world’s first lossless Bluetooth DAC/headphone amp. Lossless Bluetooth for premium wireless sound Bluetooth sound quality has improved in recent years. But up to now, even higher-fidelity versions of the wireless technology have relied upon a type of compression resulting in a loss of detail. That’s an issue that iFi found a workaround for. The NEO iDSD 2 features Bluetooth version 5.4 with the latest Qualcomm QCC518x Bluetooth audio chip. It offers aptX Lossless, the only Bluetooth codec available today that can stream lossless CD-quality audio. All other major Bluetooth codecs are supported, too, including aptX, aptX Adaptive, and LDAC. To put it into perspective: aptX HD, one of the most popular Bluetooth codecs, streams at around 576kbps (kilobits per second). Sony’s proprietary LDAC codec streams at 990kbps. aptX Lossless clocks in at an astonishing 1,200kbps. That means you don’t have to give up dynamic, rich sound for the sake of convenient wireless streaming.
