There were two trains running the line, #20 (south and eastbound) and #19 (north and westbound), powered by Canadian Na- tional 4-6-2’s. CN locos could not remain on U.S. soil for more than 24 hours so they had to swiftly make the run from Ft. Frances to Duluth, be quickly serviced, and return to the border. But DW&P had no locomotives specifically assigned to passenger service and none were even main- tained in Duluth. That changed in 1956 when the DW&P acquired one new RDC-3 of its own from the Budd Co., as depicted in Andy’s handsome painting. It was given number D-301 and provided passenger services until all were abolished in 1961.
