CA Charles Ahrenfeldt Limoges 4 Demitasse Cups & Saucers 1894-1910 Floral w/Gold A beautiful Charles Ahrenfeldt LIMOGES Set of 4 DEMITASSE CUPS & SAUCERS, Extensive FLORAL GARLAND & GOLD on Rims, Foot & Handles, Circa 1894-1910 DESCRIPTION: This is such an elegant set. The gold bands on the white porcelain look so classy. The blue garland band is accented with orange dots and groups of petite pink roses. The cup’s handle is painted gold on the outside. CONDITION: The condition of this set is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, or hairlines. The gold appears to be perfect. Please inspect the photos carefully and you will see just how good the gold is overall. DIMENSIONS: The cups have a diameter of 2 1/4″and a height of 2 1/16″ high. The saucers have a diameter of 4 13/16″ and a height of 9/16″. HISTORY/MARKS: Though Charles Ahrenfeldt (1807-94) was born in Lubeck, Germany, he began importing porcelain into New York City in the 1831 to his business located on Park Row. He was most likely the first importer of Bohemian porcelain into the US. During the 1840’s he moved to Paris where he had a decorating studio. Between 1859 and the late 1860’s he opened an exporting firm in Limoges and developed a wide export market, especially to North America. Around 1884 he also started decorating porcelain in Limoges. The son, Charles Jules Ahrenfeldt (1857-1934), took over the porcelain factory in 1894, upon his father’s death. In 1896 he built a porcelain factory in the Montjovis district of Limoges. The son and his business partner, M.O. Doering, both relocated to Europe in late 1909. Herman Kupper purchased the business in February of 1910. C. Ahrenfeldt (Charles J. Ahrenfeldt) marks #9 & #13 were used 1894-1910 as cited by the website marks4ceramics (a paid service). The term depose’ indicates this was for export trade especially in late 1890’s.
